A male House Finch flies over and spots a couple of females at the bird bath, sharing a drink with their friend Ms. Common Yellowthroat
Our intrepid hero pulls a quick U-turn for a second approach
He puts on the brakes by catching air with his tail feathers. His wings are mostly tucked in.
His wings begin to extend; he's about six inches from the rim.
Wings are flared for a perfect landing. Tail feathers are relaxed.
"Wassup, ladies?"
excellent shots and love the narrative!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jackie!
ReplyDeleteIt's clear that he's both good looking and gracefully flying, yet those female house finches and Ms. Common Yellowthroat seem to be mostly ignoring him! There is a name I want to call them, but it actually refers to dogs and some women I've known, so I won't bother with it. And even with their nasty attitude, the pictures are great!
ReplyDeleteI think his biggest problem is that he was the fourth male to fly by in the last half hour!
ReplyDeleteI bet you're right, they just want some time to themselves. Poor guy, he fly's and lands so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteGrace isn't always what catches the females eye. Maybe he should have done something funny! Like fall into the bath.
ReplyDeleteGood point- he should have acted like a "bird" brain! I apologize for that terrible joke.
