Yesterday an adult Cooper's Hawk was at the bird bath when a squirrel came scampering across the yard to get a drink. The hawk tried to scare it off by spreading its wings and hopping around a little bit, causing the squirrel to go to the smaller bird bath.
The squirrel is in the lower right corner
After the squirrel got its drink and left, the hawk decided to take a bath
On your mark... Get set...
GO!!!
as always, great action shots! I am surprised at the hawk's yellow feet they seem extra showy for some reason
ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie! Your comment reminded me of a show about ospreys that I saw on PBS recently. After catching and eating a fish, ospreys will fly low and drag their talons in the water to clean them off. Obviously the bird bath isn't big enough to do that but in one of the photos above we can see the hawk cleaning its talons with its beak.
